Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Each week, participating bloggers create a list corresponding to a particular theme. This week we are listing the top ten books on our fall to-be-read lists. These aren’t really in any particular order, my TBR list is SOOOOO long (for real, it’s 4 digits now) but I went through my Goodreads to-read shelf and selected some of the books I think I’ll read sooner rather than later and that are particularly calling out to me for fall 🙂
- Welcome to Night Vale by Joseph Fink and Jeffrey Cranor: This book is scheduled for release on October 20. I am a big fan of the very weird podcast and I hope the book lives up to the hype.
- The Witches: Salem, 1692 by Stacy Schiff: This book is scheduled for release on October 27. I love books about witches and I think that as nonfiction this is going to really be a well-researched and thorough story.
- Bird Box by Josh Malerman: This is supposed to be very scary. I love my thrillers during the fall season!
- The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer: I think that fall is the perfect time for some awesome fairy tale retellings, especially ones I’ve wanted to read for a while… don’t you think so? The fourth book Winter will be released November 10.
- Mistborn trilogy by Brandon Sanderson: Fall is great for fantasy in general in my opinion. Okay if you’re noticing a pattern fall is definitely my favorite season and I can probably connect every type of book to fall in some way. But I did buy the box set of this trilogy recently and I can’t wait to get started with it!
- Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas: I have heard such mixed reviews and I really want to see for myself if I will enjoy these books.
- MaddAddam trilogy by Margaret Atwood: I haven’t read anything by Margaret Atwood other than The Handmaid’s Tale, but I have always wanted to.
- Storm Front by Jim Butcher: This is the first book in a series that has been around for a while. I’ve heard GREAT things from my friends who have kept up with the series. It was also on a list from Book Riot of enjoyable books to read after Harry Potter 🙂
- Go Set A Watchman by Harper Lee: Despite all of the controversy surrounding this book and several people telling me that it’s not worth it, the curiosity is getting the better of me and I am going to read it.
- Armada by Ernest Cline: I don’t think that this could live up to Ready Player One for me but I’m going to check it out within the next few months.
Do you have thoughts on these? What books can you not wait to read this fall? Please share your comments below 🙂
Throne of Glass and The Lunar Chronicles are two series I’ve been meaning to read as well. Throne of Glass seems like a love-it or hate-it situation. Autumn is definitely a time for good fantasy novels.

I would love to read The Witches as well! I’ve heard great things about the author’s writing. I would also love to read more Margaret Atwood as I read Handmaid’s Tale a few months ago and absolutely loved it. Great list 🙂

Oryx and Crake is definitely my favourite of Atwood’s – enjoy!
I’m excited to pick up her new novel next month – The Heart Goes Last.
Looks like you have a great fall lined up – here’s mine!

Thanks for sharing your list!! I’ve wanted to read Oryx and Crake for so long now, since some English classes in high school were assigned it, but mine wasn’t. I hope I do enjoy it 🙂

Hi Abby! It looks like we have good overlap for reading interests. I really enjoyed The Lunar Chronicles, and am excited for Winter (the book more than the season…). I love Margaret Atwood, but sometimes she can get a little dark! I’m re-reading Oryx and Crake to remind myself what happened so I can continue on, and it’s a little… sombre? Maybe sandwich it between some lighter reads!!! We’ll have to compare notes after.

Thanks for the tip! I usually read a few books at once so I will make sure to have something lighter at the same time that I start reading the trilogy. I will definitely post reviews of everything so we can compare 🙂

Hi! I just put Ready Player One on my TBR list. And now there’s another recommended Cline book. Ahhh! My list is out of control 🙂 I’m still undecided on Go Set a Watchman. I’m afraid to ruin To Kill a Mockingbird for myself.

Thanks for sharing your list 🙂 I have accepted that my TBR list will never ever be “under control” in any way, haha. I absolutely loved Ready Player One, I really hope you love it too! I think the reviews of Armada are more mixed but I’m still curious.

Four digits? Wow, I freaked out when my TBR hit three, and started cutting to try to get it to two digits. (No success so far.) I’m really looking forward to Welcome to Night Vale, too.

My to-read shelf on Goodreads is at 1515. This is actually down from over 2000. I can’t help it!!
